the father who dwells in Atikai Vīraṭṭāṉam on the (northern) bank of Keṭilam!
கூற்று ஆயினவாறு விலக்ககிலீர்
you do not cure my disease which is giving me pain like the god of death.
கொடுமைபல செய்தன நான் அறியேன்
I do not know that I did many cruel acts intentionally to get this disease.

Civaṉ who has a bull!
அடிக்கே இரவும் பகலும் பிரியாது எப்பொழுதும் வணங்குவன்
I bow to your feet only, always night and day without leaving them.
தோற்றாது
being invisible.
என்வயிற்றின் அகம் படியே
inside my belly.
குடரோடு (1) துடக்கி முடக்கியிட
to disable me by binding together with the intestines.
அடியேன் ஆற்றேன்
I who am your slave could not bear the pain
(you must admit me as your slave removing the disease)

நெஞ்சம் உமக்கே இடமாகவைத்தேன்
I kept my mind as a place for you only.
நினையாது ஒருபோதும் இருந்து அறியேன்
I do not know having spent even a moment without thinking of you.
வஞ்சம் இது ஒப்பது கண்டறியேன்
I have never experienced anything comparable to this cruelty.
வயிற்றோடு துடக்கிமுடக்கியிட
having disabled me by bringing together the intestines with the belly.
நஞ்சு ஆகி வந்து என்னை நலிவதனை நணுகாமல் (1) துரந்து கரந்தும் இடீர்
you neither destroy this disease which afflicts me like the poison, drawing near me, by driving it away from coming near me
அஞ்சேலும் என்னீர்
nor do you say Do not be afraid'

பணிந்தாரன பாவங்கள் பாற்றவல்லீர்
you are capable of destroying the sins of those who bow to you
படுவெண்தலையில் பலிகொண்டு உழல்வீர்
you wander to receive alms in the white dead skull

பிணிந்தார் (1) பொடிகொண்டுமெய்பூசவல்லீர்
you are able to smear you body with the ash of people who died on account of diseases and other reasons.
பெற்றம் ஏற்று உகந்தீர்
you desired riding on a bull.
சுற்றும்வெண்தலை கொண்டு அணிந்தீர்
you adorned your head on all side with white skulls;

you getting angry with me for my ignorance for having embraced amaṇar.
என்னை நலிந்து முடக்கியிட
as the arthritic complaint inflicts pain and disables me.
பின்னை அடியேன் உமக்கு ஆளும்பட்டேன்
I became your slave even after that

சூலை சுடுகின்றது; தவிர்த்தருளீர்
the arthritic complaint is inflicting pain, please be gracious enough to cure me of it.
தன்னை அடைந்தார்வினை தீர்ப்பது அன்றோ தலையாயவர்தம் கடன் ஆவது (தான்)
is it not the duty of persons of first rank to remove the sufferings of those who approach them for help?

காத்து ஆள்பவர் காவல் (1) இகழ்ந்தமையால்
as I neglected the word of the watchman of the tank, who sees to it that none make the water unclean.
கரைநின்றவர்
those who were standing on the bank
கண்டு கொள் என்று சொல்லி
telling me you yourself find the depth of the tank.
நீத்து ஆய கயம்புகநூக்கியிட
as they pushed me to get into the tank which has water of swimming depth.
நிலைக்கொள்ளும் வழித்துறை ஒன்று அறியேன்
I do not know any way in the ghat to stand in the water just deep enough to stand.
வார்த்தை இது ஒப்பதுகேட்டு அறியேன்
I have not heard any news like this till now.
வயிற்றோடு தொடக்கி முடக்கியிட
to make me disabled by bringing together the intestines with the belly.

I do not know I forgot to worship you with water, flowers and fragrant incense.
தமிழோடு இசைபாடல் மறந்து அறியேன்
I never forget to sing your praises contained in Tamiḻ and singing music.
நலம் தீங்கிலும் உன்னை மறந்து அறியேன்
I never forgot you in prosperity and adversity.
உன் நாமம் என் நாவில் மறந்து அறியேன்
I never forgot to utter your names which are superior, in my tongue which is very low.
உலந்தார் தலையில் பலிகொண்டு உழல்வாய்
you wander to receive alms in the skull of people who died

உடல் உள்ளுறுசூலை தவிர்த்தருளாய்
be gracious enough to cure me of the arthritis which is inside my body.

மனைவாழ்க்கையும் ஒண்பொருளும் உயர்ந்தேன்
I gave up the house-holders life and the wealth earned by fair ways which is required to run that life;

உயர்தல் நோன்புயர்தல் போல நீக்கத்தின் கண் நின்றது (Do. Nacciṉārkkiṉiyar)]]
ஒருவர்தலைகாவல் இலாமையினால்
as there was nobody superior to me to guard me.
வயந்தே உமக்கு ஆட்செய்து வாழலுற்றால்
I lived having become your protege by my strength of penance done in previous births; if it is so.
சூலைவலிக்கின்றது
arthritis is inflicting pain.
தவிர்த்தருளீர்
be gracious enough to cure me of it.
என் வயிற்றின் அகம்படியே பறித்துப் புரட்டி அறுத்து ஈர்த்திட
as it drags along rolling and pulling out, inside my belly.
நான் பயந்து அயர்ந்தேன்
I fainted caught with fear.

மனம் வஞ்சம் ஒன்றும் இலாமையினால்
as there was not even a little of deceitful thought in my mind.
அடியேன் மனைவாழ்க்கை மகிழ்ந்து வலித்தேன்
I your slave, decided to land a house-holder's life with joy.
சலித்தால் ஒருவர்துணை யாரும் இல்லை
if I am troubled in mind there is no one to be my companion.
சங்கவெண்குழைக்காது உடை(ய) எம்பெருமான்
our God who wears a white man's ear-ring made of conch!
கலித்தே என் வயிற்றின் அகம்படியே கலக்கி மலக்கிட்டுக் கவர்ந்து தின்ன அடியேன் அலுத்தேன்
I, your slave, fainted to inflict pain seizing me to become confused inside my belly increasing on it severity.

பொன்போல மிளிர்வது ஓர் மேனியினீர்
God who has a body which is shining like gold!
புரிபுன் சடையீர்
who has a ruddy and twisted caṭai
துன்பே கவலை பிணி என்றிவற்றை நணுகாமல் துரந்து (1) கரந்தும்இடீர்
you neither drive away sufferings, anxieties and diseases, nor conceal them, without approaching me.
அடியார் படுவது இதுவே ஆகில்
if this is the suffering that your devotees have to undergo.
எண் போலிகள் உம்மை இனித்தெளியார்
people like me will not trust you here after.
அன்பே அமையும்
love is enough

{$} ஆர்த்து ஆர்புனல்சூழ் அதிகைக் கெடிலவீரட்டானத்துஉறை அம்மானே
the father in Atikai Vīraṭṭāṉam on the bank of the river Keṭilam which is full of roaring water!
போர்த்தாய் (அங்கு) ஓர் யானையின் ஈர்உரி தோல்
you covered your body with a skin of an elephant flayed and wet with blood;
[[ஈர்உரிவை எப்போதும் ஈரமானதோல்
ஈர்உரி உதிரம் அறாஉரி; ஈர்-ஈரம் (takkayākapparaṇi, 149, 551, old commentary)
புறங்காடு அரங்கா நடமாடவல்லாய்
you are capable of dancing in the cremation ground outside dwelling places, using it as a stage.
(1) ஆர்த்தான் அரக்கன்தனை மால் வரைக்கீழ் அடர்த்திட்டு அருள்வெய்த அரு கருதாய்
think of that act of pressing down the arakkaṉ who roared under the big mountain and then granting your grace hearing him chant Cāma Vētam.
வேர்த்தும் புரண்டும் விழுந்தும் எழுந்தாய்
(If you think of that) even if I get up falling down, rolling and being irritated.
என்வேதனையான விலக்கியிடாய்
you relieve my pains
(As you do not think of that you do not relieve my pains).
